Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 20, 2026
OhTalk (“we”, “our”, or “the App”) is a privacy-first language learning application designed for personal use without requiring any account registration. We do not store any personally identifiable information (PII). Data processing is conducted locally on your device, via system services provided by Apple Inc., or securely routed through our proxy to AI providers without retaining your data.
This Privacy Policy outlines how we process your information in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and relevant local privacy frameworks.
What Information We Collect and Why
Content you create or provide to us
OhTalk is built to minimize data collection. We do not collect or store any personal identifiers such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location, or device identifiers (e.g., IDFA).
During your use of the app, the following technical data may be temporarily processed to enable core features:
a. Microphone Access
- Purpose: To allow you to record your voice for shadowing practice and pronunciation evaluation.
- Data Use: Audio is used only for immediate speech recognition via Apple's Speech Recognition framework. It is not saved to your device’s media library or uploaded to our proprietary servers.
- Storage: No remote retention.
b. Text Processing via Third-Party APIs
- Service Providers: Cloudflare and Deepseek (or similar AI providers).
- Purpose: To provide AI dictionary lookups and sentence grammar explanations.
- Data Flow: The specific words or sentences you select are securely transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections to our proxy server and then to the AI provider for one-time processing; results are returned immediately to OhTalk.
- Data Retention: OhTalk does not store your text queries. AI providers (like Deepseek) may retain request data for up to 30 days solely for abuse-monitoring and safety auditing, after which it is deleted. Your text queries are not used to train their models.
